2810 Malaspina Promenade

From 1915 to 1922 the property was registered to the James Jenkins Estate, as were other properties along this stretch of Malaspina Promenade.
In 1923 the Land Titles office shows the owner as Katherine Ashworth, wife of George Ashworth who built the Royal Savary Hotel.
In 1923 Parcel B, the waterfront strip of land, was purchased from the
Crown, according to Subdivision Plan 5205. This strip would have been
added to the existing property.
From 1925 to 1932 the owner was R. W. Hunter of Vancouver.
There are no ownership records for the next 24 years.
Harry Keefer was named as either the owner or the broker, and in 1956 the property was purchased for $300 by John Lang Nichol and his wife Elizabeth.
In 1957, the Nichols hired Terry Chettleburgh to build the existing cottage, a Panabode that was prefabricated off-island, shipped to Savary, then assembled on site. At the end of the summer construction, according to daughter Sarah, Harry Keefer strongly encouraged her mother the leave the island as she was getting close to having the baby. Perhaps he was thinking he might be called upon for the delivery! Sarah was born a few days later in Vancouver.
In an article for the Savary Island News, John Nichol wrote that he first came to the island in 1932, noting that "There were no boats moored out, no outboards, no power pumps, no water system, no telephone — in short the island was perfect.” He added that Liz first came to Savary in 1951. He wrote "On Liz's first arrival they met George Funkley who carried their bags from Green's Point where the Seabee, an amphibious aircraft, had to land because of the westerly”, and that they stayed at Jack and June West’s newly renovated cottage at 3014 Malaspina Promenade.
After John and Liz died, the cottage was passed on to their three
daughters, Marjorie (m. Eisen), Barbara and Sarah (m. Milroy), who still come to Savary each summer, or share time with their children and grandchildren.
